This week I had the opportunity to browse through many examples of eportfolios that range in purpose. The four I will be referencing are the following:
Something that all four these eportfolios have in common is that they are very well organized, therefore simple to navigate. It is absolutely necessary to maintain a well-organized eportfolio, otherwise the more content you add, the messier it will become and your audience will be less likely to keep following it. These eportfolios all also contained a large amount of blog posts which pointed out to me the importance of categorizing or tagging blog posts. I currently have less than a dozen blog posts so it is easy to briefly scroll down and look through all of them, but that task won't be as feasible as I continue to publish my blog posts. I was intrigued by Levi Harapnuik's eportfolio because it is centered around the life an athlete, not something education related. Levi's blog posts for the most part are short and concise, yet still very informative. Blog posts do not have to lengthy in order for them to be effective. Dr. Harapnuik's eportfolio is very impressive because it is so rich in content. At first glance it doesn't appear to be so dense, but once you start clicking through links it will leave you in awe. Joe Bower's eportfolio is also rich in content, yet something distinctive about his eportfolio is that is does not have all the bells and whistles. It is very 'simple' in appearance, yet that does not take away from the overall value of the eportfolio. Mrs. Hahn's eportfolio was very beneficial to see because she is a DLL student so it gave me an idea of where I will be later on in this program. I was very impressed by the way she seamlessly integrated the assignments into her eportfolio. Above all, these eportfolios motivated me to keep building my eportfolio. It is evident that none of the creators built it overnight, rather it was a process. Part of me still wants to race to have an eportfolio that is rich in content and looks very polished, but I recognize that in order to ensure quality I cannot rush the process. Sources: Bower, J.
