The unique thing about an eportfolio is that you can show what you have learned rather than just listing it. Dwayne Harapnuik states that the minimalist definition of an eportfolio is "a learner's digital evidence of meaningful connections." Personally I believe this will lead me to raise my own standards to ensure that I am confident in the meaningful connections I am claiming to have made. For me, the most intriguing aspect of an eportfolio is having the opportunity to tell your story. Often times a resume can reduce you to numbers; GPA, test scores, years of experience, amount of awards, etc. An eportfolio allows your audience to see beyond those numbers, it allows your audience to really capture your way of thinking. Creating and maintaining an eportfolio initially sounded like a really daunting task. This brought back memories of completing an eportfolio for my undergraduate degree in which I was struggling my last semester trying to fish out old assignments from various flash drives, clouds, email attachments, and printouts just to place them in the template I was given. COVA was definitely not present in that situation and I also lacked the background knowledge on the benefits/purpose of an eportfolio; it was simply another assignment I had to complete. Dwayne Harapnuik wrote that "eportfolios can and should be simple to understand and, more importantly, simple to create and maintain." This really spoke to me because I know that if it's not simple to maintain, I'm going to forget all about my eportfolio. I would really like to keep up with this eportfolio, therefore I am motivated to put forth extra effort now to lay a strong foundation in order to make maintaining the portfolio in the future an easier task. With that being said, my eportfolio is currently in the beginning stage, so please forgive any sudden drastic changes that may occur; feedback on how to improve my eportfolio would be greatly appreciated as well.
