Student e-portfolios have been recognized as beneficial tools toward creating more meaningful learning experiences. I am interested in learning more about the impact student e-portfolios have proven to have over the course of time at several locations in order to better prepare to implement the student e-portfolio innovation plan at my own campus. The impact will primarily focus on student engagement and academic performance. Read the literature review below to become familiar with a few projects and studies that have explored the impact of student e-portfolios. This literature review explored various projects and studies conducted across the world over the past couple of decades. The findings on behalf of these individuals have contributed toward the rising use of student e-portfolios. The more we learn about what worked or did not work for certain campuses, the more we learn about what we can do to improve and adjust the best way possible for our population of students. The rich diversity of this research is both a strength and a weakness. It can be considered a strength because we get a wide range of experiences. It can also be considered a weakness because we do not have a clearly idea of what impact the implementation of student e-portfolios would have on our population of students. Demographics along with other factors that make our campus unique, could make or break this type of innovation.
This body of literature is missing information specifically targeting our student population. The focus of my study will be to see what impact the implementation of student e-portfolios has on student engagement and academic performance of students in the 8th grade AVID elective since they will be piloting this initiative.
